How To Make Microwave Popcorn (Without Buying Microwave Popcorn

Makes 5 to 10 cups popcorn

What You Need

1/4 to 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
Salt or other seasonings of choice (optional)

Paper lunch bag (use an extra-large lunch bag if popping 1/2 cup kernels)

  1. Place the popcorn kernels in the bag: Depending on how much popcorn you need, you can use 1/4 to 1/2 cup of kernels.
  2. Fold the bag: Fold the top of the bag down three times, making sure to leave plenty of room inside the bag for the popped kernels.
  3. Microwave the bag: Microwave the bag on HIGH for 4 minutes. But stay close by — depending on the power of your microwave, the popcorn may be done in as little as 2 minutes. Listen carefully and stop the microwave when the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops.
  4. Season the popcorn (optional): Pour the popcorn into a bowl and add salt or other seasonings, if you like.
  5. Save the bag: As long as the bag doesn’t have any holes or tears, you can reuse it for your next batch of microwave popcorn.

Recipe Notes

  • Spraying the popped popcorn with a little olive oil or coconut oil spray will help the salt or other seasonings stick to the kernels.

Aspartame made from a genetically modified bacteria byproduct

Guess what aspartame is made from?

So, you know that artificial sweetener that soft drink companies are telling you is perfectly safe? Well, aspartame might be safe, but apparently some it is made with, um, a bacterial byproduct. And not even a natural byproduct, but, in some cases, a genetically modified bacteria byproduct.

Anyway, the patent for aspartame production, filed in 1981, is now available online, and it turns out that aspartame is made by feeding genetically modified E. coli bacteria, harvesting their protein waste (which contains the aspartic acid-phenylalanine amino acid segment aspartame is made from) and then adding methanol to the harvested proteins.

So think about that the next time you chug down your morning Big Gulp of diet soda

Your brain is neither fooled by nor pleased with artificial sweeteners

Your brain isn’t thrilled by your attempts to trick it with artificial sweeteners, and it’s making you want more sugar as punishment. At least, that’s what a new study from the Yale School of Medicine is suggesting, which scientists are hoping will explain why obesity rates have continued to rise even as artificial sweeteners have become more prevalent.

The theory is that your brain doesn’t release as much dopamine when it recognizes artificial sweetener, which is why aspartame and other sugar substitutes can actually make some people feel hungrier — your brain literally refuses to acknowledge that you’re full.

Study leader Ivan de Araujo told Nature World News that he hopes the findings will lead to a “happy medium” that involves “combining sweeteners with minimal amounts of sugar.” Our brains have to ruin everything, don’t they? LOL

9 Reasons why Probiotics are mandatory in our lives

Here are some examples of foods high in probiotic content

First off I want to let you know what a Probiotic is…

Probiotics are cultured edible microorganisms that can be consumed to restore the natural balance of beneficial microbes in the gut. These include bacteria similar to those that naturally occur in the human digestive tract and specific yeast strains that complement gut bacteria. Common probiotics include Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidus. Probiotics can be cultured in foods, such as yogurt and kefir, or they can be purchased as supplements.
Adding healthy bacteria, or probiotics, into your diet is key. Probiotic literally means “for life,” and probiotics like lactobacillus, plantarum and bifidis help immune cells fight disease, prevent diarrhea and constipation, protect the mucous lining of the intestine, assist digestion and provide nutrients for building blood. They also manufacture B vitamins and vitamin K right down inside your intestines where they are immediately absorbed. They are the most efficient way to obtain vitamin B-12.

Probiotics also help you fight the signs of aging. Here’s how:

  1. Probiotics can keep you slim. Microflora reduce cravings for carbohydrates, sugar and alcohol. And new research has found that obese people have different bacteria in their intestines than people of normal weight. Scientists think that good bacteria can keep you from gaining pounds.
  2. Probiotics clean your liver. Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that the liver affects your skin and eyes. With a clean liver, you may notice younger looking skin with less liver spots, moles and skin tags, and bright, shiny eyes.
  3. Probiotics treat acne. One study found that teenagers ingesting probiotics saw improvement in their blemishes after only 2 weeks.
  4. Probiotics can prevent wrinkles. Good bacteria in your gut can help you eliminate the toxins and free radicals that can damage skin and cause early signs of aging.
  5. Probiotics give you a glowing complexion. Probiotics help you digest and better assimilate the nutrients from your food. That means your skin receives more of the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals it needs to be healthy.
  6. Probiotics help your hair grow long and lustrous. Hair may be dead, but each hair follicle is surrounded by nourishing blood vessels. Beneficial microflora help keep your intestines clean and healthy, they attack pathogens to keep your blood clean and healthy. Healthy blood nourishes hair, skin and nails.
  7. Probiotics make your fingernails stronger. Nails are made of proteins, and probiotics break down the proteins you eat into the amino acids that build healthy, flexible nails.
  8. Probiotics give you energy. It’s much harder to look and feel good when you’re tired, but consuming probiotics boosts your immunity and makes digestion easier, giving you more energy to look your best!
  9. Probiotics prevent yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. Keeping live cultures in your body balances out the good and bad bacteria in your body.

If you are serious about looking and feeling your best, then it is time to add beneficial probiotics to your diet. Fermented foods and beverages are the perfect way to obtain the probiotics your body needs.

(We recommend foods and beverages as probiotic sources because they are more potent than supplements, which lose potency after time on the shelf. Once inside your body, probiotic supplements don’t always survive the acidic environment of your stomach unless they are taken along with fermented foods and liquids.)

Consider adding these fermented foods and beverages to a diet of nutritious, whole foods. You’ll be looking (and feeling) better in no time.

  • Young Coconut Kefir is a delicious, bubbly drink that is deal for anyone who wants to stay slim or improve their skin.            I will post a homemade recipe later today

  • Vitality SuperGreen, wholefood green drink, contains fermented greens, algae and potent probiotics.
  • Dong Quai newest, most convenient and economical fermented drink that supports overall body balancing and restoration for men and women.

As you incorporate fermented foods and drinks into your diet, keep in mind that probiotics are not the only piece of the beauty puzzle. Be sure to drink plenty of water, eat whole foods, sleep well, and exercise daily.

Instead of putting creams and lotions on your face, it’s so much more effective to eat a delicious menu plan that includes high-quality proteins, vitamins, minerals, virgin, organic oils and fats along with those wonderful probiotic foods. You’ll save money and have a whole team of healthy microflora at work to keep you healthy and young!

8 Amazingly Simple Date Ideas

Enjoy a walk and a picnic at the lake.

Spending your day in nature can make  a great date. Be sure you bring lots of water to stay hydrated and take snacks to keep your energy and spirits up. Opt for trail mix with fruits and nuts over high-calorie, sugar-packed energy bars. If you’re not up for hiking, a leisurely stroll in the woods or walk around the neighborhood also burns calories, gets you out of the house, and can be very romantic.

Go to a wine tasting and a nearby buffet

Go to a winery or a botanical garden

This may sound a bit too adventurous for some, but don’t write off rock climbing immediately. These days, it isn’t an extreme sport for the über-athletic and daring. In fact, rock climbing gyms have sprung up across the country. They’re safe, fun, and accommodate all skill levels. First-timers and advanced climbers alike can take classes or just go for it on any type of terrain. Spotting your partner as they scale a wall is a great way to gain their trust and burn calories.

A couple doing yoga together on the beach during sunset.

There are many preconceptions about yoga that simply aren’t true. One of them is that yoga is not a couple’s activity. Like dancing, yoga can be a great way to work up a sweat with your partner. Classes range from Ananda yoga—a calm style that focuses on controlled breathing, slow movements, and body alignment—to the physically demanding and strength-building Ashtanga and Bikram yoga styles.

Get dressed and go take some pictures, just the two of you

Enjoying a glass of wine and some chocolates is always a wonderul experience. In the right quantities, both red wine and dark chocolate can be perfectly healthy and even beneficial to your body. According to findings published in the American Journal of Physiology, a glass or two of red wine a day can lower blood pressure and prevent heart disease.Studies have found that eating small amounts of dark chocolate improves your mood as well. Just remember, a “small amount” is not a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

While most healthy activities require you to get out of the house, this activity requires that you do the exact opposite. A day of bedroom romance is actually one of the healthiest ways you can spend your day. If you really need an excuse to spend the day under the covers, sex:

  • improves mood
  • burns calories
  • reduces the risk of prostate cancer
  • increases bladder control
  • reduces the risk of breast cancer
  • lowers blood pressure
  • regulates hormone levels
